Piedmont clay is the reason
Upstate soil is heavy red clay. It does not drain the way sandy soil does. Water sits on it, moves across the surface instead of down through it, and takes topsoil with it when it goes. That is why so many Greenville-area yards have the same three symptoms: a corner that stays soggy for days, a lawn that thins in the same patch every year, and a channel cut through the mulch after every heavy storm.
None of those are lawn problems. Fertilising them, reseeding them or mowing around them just repeats the cost annually.
What we install
- French drains: perforated pipe in a gravel trench, intercepting water before it reaches the low spot.
- Catch basins and surface drains: for the places water already collects.
- Downspout lines: roof water piped away from the foundation rather than dumped beside it.
- Dry creek beds: river rock channels that carry storm flow and look deliberate rather than remedial.
- Regrading: sometimes the fix is not a pipe at all, it is the shape of the ground.
- Erosion control: rock, plantings and grade changes on slopes that are washing.
Where the water goes matters as much as where it leaves
The most common failed drainage job is one that solved one yard by moving the problem twenty feet. Water has to get somewhere it can legally and physically go: a swale, a street, a daylight point downhill. Working that out is the design part, and it is worth more than the pipe.
It is also why we walk the property after rain when we can. A dry yard hides the evidence.
Warranty
Drainage installations are covered by our two-year workmanship warranty against defects caused by improper installation, the same cover as our hardscape work. It does not extend to erosion, natural disasters or ground settlement from causes outside our installation practices. Full terms come with your quote.
Drainage and the rest of the job
Drainage is usually discovered during something else. It comes up when a patio is going in and the water has to be routed around it, when new sod would drown in the same low spot that killed the last lawn, or when irrigation is blamed for a problem that is actually too much water rather than too little.
Because we handle all of it, the drainage gets designed into the project rather than retrofitted after it fails.
